Duties of CRSPs

A CRSP has in-depth understanding of health and safety concepts and practices and utilizes this expertise to design systems in the workplace in order to achieve optimum control of dangers detrimental to people, equipment, material and the environment.

These responsibilities include risk assessment of the worksite, evaluation of potential hazards and controls, risk assessment and hazard control methods, incident investigation, incident and loss record maintenance and evaluation, and emergency response plan preparation.

Who is eligible for CRSP?

A combination of education, professional development, and experience is needed to be eligible to apply for the CRSP certification. Applications for the CRSP certification received on or after July 1, 2018, may be exempt from the professional development requirements, depending on the type of education you have received.

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in any field OR a 2-year diploma (or certificate) (minimum of 900 hours or 60 credits) in occupational health and safety or equivalent from a recognized academic institution. 
  • 48 months of professional level OHS experience obtained within the last 72 months (minimum of 900 hours/calendar year of practice in OHS)

In order to be eligible, a candidate with a bachelor’s degree must further show that they have had enough professional growth in OHS.

Cost of CRSP exam

Following the approval of your application which cost $525, you have one (1) year to purchase and take the test. The application cost is $75 if the applicant is using one of the Memorandum of Understanding application channels.
